On Mar. 28, the national government designated named six regions, including Fukuoka City, as National Strategic Zones. Fukuoka’s special zone is focused on reforming employment regulations to create more jobs. The City will use a set of employment guidelines drawn up by the national government and revise a variety of employment requirements, including residency status for foreigners. The City will also discuss relaxing employment regulations for venture companies that are less than five years old and foreign companies. Fukuoka City will establish an Employment Counseling Center within the special zone to prevent labor disputes. National Strategic Zones are part of Prime Minister Abe’s growth strategy.
