Fukuoka City announced the creation of a new section-chief position from April 1, 2019 to reduce the number of wild boar attacks on residents. The department head will be charged with inspecting the natural habitats of wild boars in the surrounding area and will work with hunting associations to capture any that pose a threat. Although the amount of damage wild boars have caused to residential gardens and dumpsters has declined since 2015, the number of attacks on people has increased. The case of a wild boar charging a man outside Imajuku Station, Nishi-ku received national news coverage in October last year. The city plans to distribute educational pamphlets to farmers and hopes to reduce the number of deserted arable land in the future. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 2/14/2019
