Fukuoka City’s Launches Support for Artists Initiative

To support artists, Fukuoka City will begin a new initiative by opening former junior high school buildings in the city as bases of operation. Fukuoka City Mayor Takashima announced this at a press conference on April 12. According to the announcement, the city will pay the expenses related to production activities, etc., and provide space inside Maizuru Junior High School in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, as a base for art production. The city will select the artists to be supported through an open application process. The period of support will be from September to December of this year and from January to March of next year, with four to six artists to be selected. The number of applicants will be invited from both Japan and overseas. The purpose of the support is to encourage the artists’ growth and promote interaction with art among citizens of Fukuoka City. Applications will be accepted through the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum website until next month. Source: NHK / Fukuoka City
