Fukuoka City is considering rebuilding the Fukuoka International Center, including the possibility of relocating it to another site. The 45-year-old venue hosts the annual Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament as well as conventions and concerts. City officials say aging facilities, limited accessibility and a loading entrance too low for large trucks cannot be fully addressed through renovation alone. The city is also considering the future relocation or rebuilding of the neighboring Fukuoka Sunpalace. Both projects are being examined as part of wider waterfront redevelopment plans.
