Fukuoka Drives Kyushu’s Lodging Recovery

The Kyushu Economic Research Center revealed that the lodging occupancy index for Kyushu’s seven prefectures increased by 2.9 points year-over-year to 60.3. Fukuoka was the main driver of this growth, thanks to an influx of international visitors and the hosting of the World Aquatics Masters Swimming Championships. Meanwhile, five other Kyushu prefectures saw a decrease in their index, with Saga experiencing a notable 18-point drop. Okinawa also saw a rise in its index, likely due to the Men’s Basketball World Cup. The absence of last year’s travel discounts and this year’s extreme heat are thought to have influenced travel preferences. Source: Kyushu Economic Research Center / Nikkei
