Fukuoka City has expanded a pilot program aimed at providing elementary school students with safe and flexible after-school spaces as the number of dual-income households continues to rise. The initiative, operating at four elementary schools, offers activities led by outside instructors, including sports, programming, reading, and crafts. About 70 students from grades one through six took part on June 3. While the program initially focused on outdoor activities, indoor options have now been added, allowing children to choose how they spend their time regardless of weather conditions. City officials said the project is intended to support children’s development while responding to growing demand for after-school care. Fukuoka plans to continue evaluating the pilot before considering wider implementation. Source: KBC News / Fukuoka City
