Fukuoka Eyes Bid for 2021 World Aquatics Championships

City Hall is ramping up its efforts to win the bid for the 19th World Aquatics Championships to be held in 2021. The City’s plan, which draws on its experience of hosting 2001 games, calls for the use of a temporary pool to be installed in Marine Messe and was appraised highly by the International Swimming Federation (aka FINA). Fukuoka will aim to provide all of the venues within a 600 m radius of Marine Messe, thereby offering a compact site for the tourney. The head of FINA said the 2021 bid is “much better than last time”, when venues included other pools far from the main venue. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun
