Fukuoka Governor Comments on Easing of Mask Wearing Standards

Governor Hattori of Fukuoka Prefecture called the government’s relaxation of mask-wearing standards “very significant” on the morning of May 23. According to the “mask-wearing standards” announced by the government last week, it is not necessarily necessary to wear a mask outdoors if a distance of 2 meters or more can be obtained by running or other activities or if there is little conversation. It also means that the mask can be removed even indoors if a distance is maintained and there is little conversation. On the other hand, it is still recommended to wear it outdoors when talking at a close distance or commuting to work or school by public transportation. He stated that “it remains the case that masks are effective in preventing infection” and expressed his intention to communicate the new standard to the citizens of the prefecture in an easy-to-understand manner.
