The Fukuoka High Court in Japan has dismissed a case brought forward by atomic bomb survivors from Nagasaki Prefecture, who argued that the country’s security-related laws permitting collective self-defense were in violation of the Constitution. The court did not make a judgement on the constitutionality of the laws, in line with the initial ruling of the Nagasaki District Court. The plaintiffs, who had sought compensation for mental distress, have announced plans to appeal. Similar lawsuits across Japan have so far seen the plaintiffs’ claims dismissed without constitutional judgement. Source: NHK
