Fukuoka Launches After-School Experience Program at Three Elementary Schools

Fukuoka City has begun a new after-school initiative at three elementary schools, offering children opportunities to learn programming, crafts, dance, and other activities. The program, which started last week, runs three to four times a week with lessons led by external instructors. Participation is open to all students at the three schools for free or at a small fee of up to ¥500. At Kashii Higashi Elementary School in Higashi Ward, children recently learned to build and pilot model airplanes. The city aims to provide safe after-school spaces and hands-on learning experiences for children who may not attend private lessons. Officials plan to expand the program citywide by fiscal 2027 after evaluating the pilot results. Source: gokan+ / TNC
