Nine part-time members of the Fukuoka Prefecture government’s Inland Waters Fishing Ground Management Commission were paid a total of 1.72 million yen for their services over a seven-month period in which they did not work a single day, it was learned. The members are paid on a per diem basis, but the current system allows them to be paid for work presumably done at home. The prefecture plans to eliminate the system in August.
