Fukuoka Prefecture Joins Tick-borne Disease Research

Fukuoka Prefecture and the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Japan, will participate in joint research on tick-borne diseases. Reflecting on the recent increase of SFTS (severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome) in western Japan, the national team and Fukuoka Institute of Health and Environmental Sciences will seek new testing methods to tackle this serious health threat. SFTS is a disease that first appeared in our area about ten years ago, and it is gradually spreading around eastern Japan, too. Source: Nikkei / Fukuoka Prefecture
