Fukuoka Prefecture, JR Kyushu, And Toyota Lead The Way In Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Demonstration

At joint press conference on February 8th, JR Kyushu and multiple manufacturers, including Toyota Automobiles, held a press conference to announce the start of the demonstration operation of a hydrogen fuel cell powered bus. The demonstration will take place on a section of the JR Hita-Hikosan line, which has been affected by the 2017 floods and has since been reconstructed using the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. The approximately 40-kilometer route between Soeda and Yoake and Hita will be named the BRT Hikoboshi line and is set to open in summer 2023. Buses will run on dedicated and public roads. Hydrogen powered buses have been operated in Tokyo and other cities, but this will be the first time they will be used in mountainous areas. Source: JR Kyushu / KBC / NHK
