Fukuoka Prefecture Launches Japan’s First Used EV Leasing Program

Fukuoka Prefecture announced on August 20 that it has launched a used electric vehicle (EV) leasing program, branded “Sustaina EV,” within the prefecture in partnership with Shinidemitsu Co., Ltd., a major petroleum products distributor based in Fukuoka City. The initiative is the first of its kind in Japan to be undertaken by a local government. The program is operated by Shinidemitsu, a member of GBNet Fukuoka, under commission from the prefecture. In addition to fuel distribution, Shinidemitsu has car rental and leasing as one of its core business pillars. The program is designed to offer residents an opportunity to experience EVs while keeping initial costs and ongoing expenses low. During the lease period, battery diagnostics and warranty services are provided to address concerns associated with used EVs. After leases end, recovered batteries will be reused or recycled. Through this initiative, the prefecture aims to improve public perception of used EVs and to assess the commercial viability of used EV leasing. Source: FIBA
