Fukuoka Prefecture Requests Extension of State of Emergency

Fukuoka Prefecture requested an extension to the ongoing state of emergency, which was scheduled to end on May 31. While the prefecture has seen a gradual decline in the number of daily cases, weekly counts of COVID-19 infections remain at a high. As of May 24, the number of new patients per 100,000 population during the past week reached 46.94 in Fukuoka, whereas Tokyo stood at 32.09 and Osaka 31.75.
