Fukuoka Prefecture to Leave Mask-Wearing to Individual Discretion

Fukuoka Prefecture has put together a plan that places the wearing of masks at the discretion of individuals starting on the 13th of next week as part of their measures against the novel coronavirus. The plan eliminates the requirement for mask-wearing during conversations at eateries, among others. The government has already decided to leave it up to individuals to decide whether or not to wear masks indoors or outdoors starting on the 13th. According to sources, in response to this decision, Fukuoka Prefecture has put together a new plan that relaxes the requests made to residents and businesses. Specifically, the plan will rely on individuals’ discretion with regard to wearing masks indoors, which had previously been required as a rule. Moreover, the plan aims to eliminate the requirement for mask-wearing during conversations at eateries, among others. However, to prevent the infection of those at high risk of developing severe symptoms, the plan recommends wearing masks when visiting medical institutions or when using crowded trains or buses. Additionally, the prefecture plans to relax the criteria for certifying infection prevention measures at eateries and accommodation facilities. For example, the prefecture will remove the requirement for employees to wear masks in stores and allow users to request the installation of acrylic boards in cases where seat distances cannot be secured. The plan will be decided upon by the prefectural task force meeting on the 9th and will be revised from the 13th of next week. Source: KBC
