Fukuoka Requests Restraints as Fourth Wave Hits

As of Apr. 22, eateries in Fukuoka City will be requested to operate only between 05:00~21:00. The city and Fukuoka Prefecture held a joint press conference on Apr. 19, in which they announced new business regulations on the verge of the region’s fourth wave of the new coronavirus infections. Eateries (*except for delivery services and those selling food to go) and karaoke parlors inside Fukuoka City will be requested to close at 21:00 and stop orders for alcoholic drinks by 20:30. Cooperating shops would be eligible for the prefecture’s subsidy program of ¥25,000 ~ ¥75,000 per day for mid and small-sized businesses and up to ¥200,000 per day for larger companies. Fukuoka City would also aid those shops to install ventilators to prevent the virus from spreading. Prefectural residents are requested to refrain from non-urgent outings, especially to regions where the national government has implemented stricter anti-infection measurements. Careful judgments are required upon visiting other areas outside the prefecture, too. On occasions of eating with friends or other non-families, people are also asked to dine in small groups and avoid spending more than two hours or getting drunk. Use of masks and moderate volume of voices are requested while chatting. The prefecture and the city warn that people in their 20s and 30s do have risks of developing serious symptoms and spreading the virus to older people, including their grandparents. The program will take effect from Apr. 22 to May 19. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture / NHK / RKB / Nikkei
