For the third straight year, Fukuoka City has held the second most international conferences in Japan. In 2011, Fukuoka City held 221 international conferences behind Tokyo on 470 and in front of Yokohama with 169. Fukuoka City’s Convention Dept. stated that Fukuoka’s popularity is not only because of the low impact from the nuclear disaster affecting northern Japan, but due to its direct flights from many cities in Asia and access from the airport to the city.
