Fukuoka Seeks Input on Shinkansen Route

Fukuoka Governor Seitaro Hattori said discussions on a proposed Kyushu Shinkansen West Kyushu route passing through the Saga Airport area into southern Fukuoka Prefecture should include consultation with Fukuoka due to the potential financial burden on the prefecture. Debate continues over the unresolved section between Shin-Tosu and Takeo-Onsen stations. While the central government and JR Kyushu support a route via Saga Station, Saga Prefecture has suggested a southern route near Saga Airport as an alternative. Saga Governor Yoshinori Yamaguchi recently asked the transport ministry to widen the scope of environmental assessments to include southern areas of the prefecture. JR Kyushu President Yoji Furumiya reiterated support for a Saga Station route, saying it would provide the most convenient access for residents. Source: NHK News / Yomiuri Shimbun
