Fukuoka Shifts COVID-19 Healthcare Strategy

Fukuoka Prefecture recently convened a meeting to discuss upcoming changes in its COVID-19 healthcare approach starting October. The new policy will balance regular and COVID-19 healthcare by only setting up dedicated beds for COVID-19 during infection surges. This follows the reclassification of the virus to Category 5 under Japan’s Infectious Diseases Law in May, which led to an expansion of facilities treating COVID-19. The current strategy of reducing dedicated beds will end this September. Less severe COVID-19 cases will now be handled by non-core hospitals to alleviate strain, with local facilities collaborating for necessary transfers. Source: NHK
