Fukuoka Students Wear Helmets As New School Term Begins

The spring term began on April 7 at most prefectural high schools in Fukuoka Prefecture, with students now required to wear helmets when commuting by bicycle. At Chikushigaoka High School in Fukuoka City, students were seen arriving with helmets and storing them in baskets after parking their bicycles. The helmet mandate, introduced by the prefectural board of education, aims to address low usage rates and enhance road safety awareness. Last year, around 39,000 students—roughly 60% of those enrolled in prefectural high schools—commuted by bike. Source: NHK
