Fukuoka Welcomes First Chinese Cruise Ship in Three Years

On the morning of the 28th, the cruise ship “Blue Dream Star,” operated by a Chinese shipping company, made a port call at Hakata Port in Fukuoka City. This marks the first time in nearly three years, and the first time since the spread of the novel coronavirus, that a Chinese cruise ship has docked in Japan. The Blue Dream Star is expected to remain at Hakata Port until sailing on the evening of the 28th to Shanghai. China’s government, adhering to a “Zero Covid Policy,” halted group travel overseas in 2020. Although some restrictions were lifted in February this year, Japan was not included in the list of permitted destinations. This voyage is considered a trial run. If regular services from Chinese cruise ships resume, it’s anticipated that Fukuoka’s tourism industry will experience a further boost in recovery. Source: RKB
