Fukuoka’s Accommodation Tax Bounces Back after Pandemic Dip

Fukuoka Prefecture, which implemented an accommodation tax three years ago, held a review meeting to evaluate its status and future prospects. Despite the initial slump due to COVID-19, the tax revenue is on a recovery path, projected to reach around 1.4 billion yen this fiscal year. The tax, set at 200 yen per person per night, aims to fund tourism promotion. The committee, comprising of tourism and accommodation industry representatives, will reevaluate tax rates and target audience, planning an interim report by July. Source: NHK
