Fukuoka’s Hakata Dontaku Port Festival Parade Cancelled

Organizers within the Fukuoka City government and the Fukuoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry have announced the cancellation of the Hakata Dontaku Port Festival parade due to the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). The event has a 58-year history and attracts more than two million people on May 3 and 4. Last year, approximately 36,000 people from 774 organizations participated in the parade. This will be the first time for the event to be canceled for a reason other than bad weather. Meanwhile, the Matsubayashi Festival will (for the time being) take place as scheduled. It was recently recognized as a national important cultural property. Source: Asahi 2020-03-27
