Fukuoka is bringing its culinary heritage into classrooms. At Maizuru Elementary in Fukuoka City, students experienced real yatai stalls, where they served drinks, toasted with barley tea, and learned about the history of these iconic food stands. Meanwhile, Kurume’s Akatsuki Kindergarten served Taiho Ramen as part of its lunch program. Staff from the ramen chain prepared hot bowls on-site to introduce children to the flavors of Kurume’s famed tonkotsu ramen. In Kitakyushu, university students studied and cooked nukadaki, a traditional dish of fish stewed in fermented rice bran, learning its nutritional value and preparation techniques.
