On Jan. 23, Fukuoka Prefecture announced that a new local flavor of Calbee potato chips will go on sale. The limited edition goboten udon (noodles topped with fried burdock) flavored snacks will be available in stores across Kyushu and Okinawa from Feb. 19. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry participated in the development along with Fukuoka Prefecture. Approximately 20 prototypes were created before the final flavor was decided. Manufacturers hope that the popularity of goboten udon in the Fukuoka area will make the chips be well-accepted with consumers. The packaging will include a pattern inspired by the famous local textile Hakata-ori. Source: TNC, 1/23/2018
