Government Seeks New Management of Uminonakamichi Seaside Park

Kyushu Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism will seek a private company to collaborate in the redevelopment of the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park. The national park, which enjoys the privileged natural environment on the peninsula of Shikanoshima, attracts approximately two million visitors each year. However, available activities and visiting spots are still limited. Therefore, the bureau has been considering new ways of using the potential of the park further and will look for collaborators to develop attractions such as camping and glamping sites, restaurants and a shop for water activities. The bureau will call for collaborators in the summer of 2019, targeting to open the new facilities in 2021 at the earliest. This will be the first case where the public and private organizations will work together in developing a national park.
