Fukuoka Prefecture is thinking of requiring all employees of the governor’s office to submit statements verifying their payment of the automobile tax. The system could be introduced as early as next year. The tax accounts for 12% of prefectural revenue, but the payment rate in FY 2008 for all prefectural citizens was only 62.6%, eight percentage points below the national average.
