A suspected hand grenade was discovered on a slope near an apartment building in Moji Ward, Kitakyushu, on the afternoon of July 29. A worker clearing grass spotted the rusted object, approximately 11 cm long and 5.5 cm in diameter. Police called in the Ground Self-Defense Force’s unexploded ordnance unit, which confirmed it had a fuse and safely removed it around 4:30 p.m. Residents in the surrounding area were temporarily evacuated. The site is about 1.7 km northeast of JR Mojiko Station in a residential neighborhood. Source: NHK
