There is a growing trend in Oita Prefecture of companies from other industries becoming involved in the agricultural sector, reports the Nishinippon Shimbun. Construction companies, real estate companies, and pharmaceutical companies are cultivating not only the prefectural specialties of onions and shiitake mushrooms, but also tomatoes and barley. Companies from outside the prefecture are also entering the field, and one official with the prefectural government says they receive at least one inquiry a day from other companies about locating there.
