A new bamboo shoot product originating from Itoshima, Hakata Barimen, will be available inside Hakata Hankyu. On August 17 and 18, a special event featuring food products developed by high school students in Kyushu will take place on the basement floor. A group of students from Hakata Girls’ High School in Itoshima will present a unique, crispy snack of locally sourced bamboo shoots. The group developed Hakata Barimen in 2018 under the concept of preserving the mountainous areas of Itoshima. Two flavors, black pepper and chili, will be available. Fukuoka Now staff tasted both flavors today and they agree – Barimen is bari-bari oishi!
