The Kokudo (National Highway) No. 3 Hakata Bypass has finally opened. Traffic can now pass through the 3.3 km stretch of road connecting the Shimobaru Chuo Kosaten (intersection) to the Sawara Chusei Kosaten. The Hakata Bypass is 7.7 km in length, linking the Futamatase-bashi Kosaten (located in Futamatase) to the Shimobaru Chuo Kosaten (Shimobaru). The project first began in 1968. Construction has been carried out in stages with the initial phase starting in 1971. In total, the project cost approximately ¥48.1 billion. Opening the bypass will ease traffic congestion along the Kokudo No. 3. Source: Net IB News, 3/16/2018
