Hakata Dontaku Port Festival Returns After 2-Year Hiatus

One of the three major festivals in Hakata, the “Hakata Dontaku Port Festival,” will be held this year on the same scale as before the spread of the new coronavirus, and the wearing of masks by spectators and participants will be left to individual judgment. The “Hakata Dontaku Port Festival” is one of the three major festivals in Hakata and is usually crowded with over 2 million spectators during the Golden Week holidays on May 3rd and 4th. Due to the impact of the new coronavirus, the festival was canceled for two years, and last year it was held for the first time in three years but was only streamed online, and viewers were asked to refrain from watching along the streets. This year, 183 groups and more than 16,000 participants have been confirmed for the popular parade, and it is expected to attract 2 million spectators over the two days. Additionally, the wearing of masks by spectators and participants will be left to individual judgment. Source: Hakata Dontaku / NHK
