Hakata Matsubayashi Registered as National Important Cultural Assets

The traditional procession of Hakata Matsubayashi was registered as one of Japan’s Intangible Cultural Properties. The 840-year-old procession, representing three gods and a group of children dancing, takes place yearly during the Dontaku festival (May 3 & 4) in Fukuoka. It was the second registration of an intangible tradition as a national intangible cultural property, following the registration of Hakata Gion Yamakasa (1979). Source: Fukuoka City 2020-03-17
