Hawks clinch first league three-peat since moving to Fukuoka

The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks secured their third consecutive Pacific League title with a 7-1 victory over Orix in Osaka on Sep. 17. It is the club’s first league three-peat since moving to Fukuoka. Trailing by a run, the Hawks drew level through Tatsuru Yanagimachi’s sixth-inning hit before Taisei Makihara’s triple put them ahead. Relievers Hernandez and Osuna each kept Orix scoreless for an inning as SoftBank protected its lead. Seibu’s loss to Nippon-Ham reduced the Hawks’ magic number to one, and their comeback victory sealed the championship. Source: RKB News / NHK News
