Hina Ningyo Displayed in Asakura

An impressive array of dolls was on display in Akizuki Castle Town, Asakura City to celebrate hina matsuri (Doll Festival). Approximately 250 hina ningyo (ornamental dolls) lined the 21 steps leading up to the Akitsuki Castle remains. Many visitors stopped by to take photographs of the of dolls, which were displayed until March 4. A special light up also took place on March 3 that gave the public the chance to see the dolls in a night-time setting. The Asakura Tourism Association stated that they are still working to support those whose livelihoods were affected by the heavy rainfall that hit northern Kyushu last year.
