Hojoya Festival To Be Held at Hakozaki Shrine as Usual

Hojoya is held every September at Hakozaki-gu Shrine in Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, and is usually crowded with 500 stalls and one million visitors. It is one of the three major festivals in Hakata. Due to the new coronavirus, the festival had been scaled down for two consecutive years, but this year, the festival will be held as usual for the first time in three years. According to Hakozaki Shrine, the festival will be held as usual to revitalize the local economy and society, and to pass on traditional events, as was this year’s Hakata Dontaku Minato Festival and the Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival. In order to prevent the spread of the disease, the number of participants in stage events will be reduced, and the wearing of masks and the dispersal of visitors to the shrine will be encouraged.
