Holiday Congestion Expected at Fukuoka Airport and Highways

According to Fukuoka Airport, the number of domestic flight passengers during the extended holiday is projected to be around 505,000, nearly the same as before the pandemic. The peak congestion for departures is expected on May 3rd, 6th, and 7th, while arrivals will peak on May 3rd. International flight passenger numbers are anticipated to recover to approximately 80% of pre-pandemic levels, with around 152,000 passengers. JR Kyushu anticipates peak congestion for Shinkansen and conventional train lines on May 3rd for outbound trains and May 3rd and 5th for inbound trains. Seat reservations are still available at around 80% of pre-pandemic levels. For highways, NEXCO West Japan predicts that the peak congestion for Kyushu’s highways will be on May 3rd for both outbound and inbound lanes. Traffic jams of up to 40 kilometers near the Tosu Junction are expected for outbound lanes, while inbound lanes may see 15-kilometer jams near the Hirokawa Interchange and Koga Service Area.
