Huge Offshore Windmill Tested in Kitakyushu

The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) began test operations of an offshore wind power generator on May 21. The generator measures 70 m in height and is equipped with a 100-meter long blade. It is capable of generating three megawatts. The floating base of the generator was constructed by Hitachi Zosen Corporation. An evaluation of the system will be conducted by Tokyo University and the electricity will be sold to Kyushu Electric Power. The project aims to identify problems and possible improvements in durability and remote control system before implementation by 2021. Source: Sankei News, 5/22/2019
