Iizuka Hospital Faces Scrutiny for Illicitly Claimed COVID-19 Subsidies

A medical institution in Iizuka City, identified as Iizuka Mitsuki Hospital, improperly applied for over 85 million yen in prefectural subsidies for accepting COVID-19 inpatients. The subsidies were intended for securing hospital beds and facility enhancements. Discrepancies were uncovered during audits, revealing the hospital lacked the necessary patient reception capabilities and provided insufficient documentation. As a result, the prefecture is demanding the return of the disbursed funds and has canceled the remaining subsidy allocation. The hospital admitted to submitting applications without verifying the actual conditions. The prefecture is now investigating to ensure no similar misconduct exists at other medical facilities.
