iQPS SAR Satellite Launch – Public Viewing in Fukuoka

The first of two small SAR satellites developed by the Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space, Inc. (iQPS Inc.) and approximately 20 companies from the local region will be launched on December 11. The Izanagi satellite will be attached to a PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) C48 based at the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, India. Izanagi will be released once the rocket starts to orbit at a height of 550km. The research center’s long term target is to operate 36 small high-resolution SAR satellites that will will provide close to real-time observations of the Earth. A public viewing of the launch will take place in the ground floor lobby of the Fukuoka Prefectural Government Offices on December 11 from 18:20 to 19:30 (guests can enter from 18:00). The iQPS Institute director and Kyushu University Professor Emeritus Tetsuo Yasaka will be at the screening to introduce the project, discuss the technology, and share stories about the development of the satellites.
