Itoshima Drinkers Can Get Taxi Discounts

Twenty-nine eateries, four taxi companies and three “daiko” driving service companies in Itoshima have teamed up to offer discounts and coupons to imbibing patrons. Around 100 people have used the service since it was launched last December. The initiative was devised by a task force to eliminate drunk driving operating within Safe Itoshima Network, a group of 37 Itoshima restaurants and other organizations. The aim is to reduce drunk driving by making taxis and daiko more convenient while increasing restaurant patronage. Discounts and coupons are available to paying customers who reserve a taxi or daiko in advance, and each restaurant sets the amount at which the discounts kick in. Customers using daiko receive 10% off their dining bill and 10% off the daiko fare. Meanwhile, customers using taxis can choose from a ¥500 taxi ticket, a coupon from the restaurant or 10% off their taxi fare. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 3/27
