An 82-year-old Itoshima man was defrauded of 6.1 kg of gold valued at approximately 143.16 million yen. The scam began in early September with a caller posing as a postal worker who claimed that bank cards and cash had been mailed in the man’s name. Another caller, pretending to be a police officer, said he was suspected of money laundering and directed him to communicate through social media. A supposed prosecutor then requested an asset check to clear his name, and men collected the gold from his home on three occasions from Sep. 10. Police are urging residents to consult them immediately when suspicious callers raise the subject of money. Source: KBC News / RKB News
