The Japan Rail Pass will be on sale at some JR authorized shops inside of Japan from March 8, 2017 to March 31, 2018. Previously, the pass could only be bought outside of Japan. The pass will, however, be more expensive when purchased in Japan. From April 1, 2017, the pass will no longer be able to be bought by Japanese nationals with permanent residence outside of Japan.
