JR Kyushu Executives Referred To Prosecutors

Eight individuals including the former president of JR Kyushu Jet Ferry have been referred to prosecutors for failing to report repeated water leaks on the Queen Beetle high-speed ferry operating between Fukuoka and Busan. Despite discovering leaks in 2023 and 2024, the company continued operations without notifying authorities, violating maritime safety laws.

This marks the first legal action under stricter penalties introduced after the 2022 sightseeing boat accident in Shiretoko, Hokkaido. All eight individuals have admitted to the allegations. Source: KBC
