Starting September 26th, JR Kyushu will introduce QR code e-tickets for online reservations, allowing passengers to pass through ticket gates by scanning the QR code directly from their smartphones. This new system will be available for the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen and select limited express trains departing from Hakata Station, covering around 200 stations. Previously, passengers who booked tickets online still had to pick up physical tickets at the station, but this change aims to improve convenience and reduce congestion. The QR codes can be displayed using JR Kyushu’s mobile app, and some stations will have separate terminals for scanning the codes where necessary. At stations without ticket gates, posters with QR codes will be displayed for passengers to scan with their smartphones, enabling them to board and exit the trains. Source: JR Kyushu / NHK
