On Dec. 18 JR Kyushu announced that it will bump up fares for its Seven Stars in Kyushu luxury train by 10~20% starting with January reservations for rides in August~November 2014. The single person fare for a Deluxe Suite A seat on the three-night, four-day course will increase ¥134,000 to ¥700,000. Having spared no expense on the train’s interior, the company says the fares it set before the train was completed were not high enough to cover its costs. JR Kyushu says it will enhance services in line with the fare hike. For instance, some of the liquors that were not included in the ticket price for the Deluxe Suite will now be offered as part of the package. “I am confident we can meet our customers’ expectations even at a higher price,” remarked JR Kyushu president Koji Karaike.
