JR Kyushu has announced its decision to purchase the high-speed ferry Queen Beetle from its leasing company after deciding to withdraw from the Japan-South Korea ferry route. This follows a series of issues, including the concealment of water damage to the vessel by a JR Kyushu subsidiary, which led to the suspension of the route’s operations.
At a press conference on January 23, JR Kyushu President Yoji Furumiya explained that the purchase decision was made because the company no longer plans to use the vessel for business, making the lease arrangement unnecessary. JR Kyushu is now exploring options for selling the ferry while also preparing to dissolve the subsidiary and complete formal procedures for terminating the route.
In the same press conference, Furumiya also addressed the company’s decision to suspend commercials on Fuji TV after reports of inappropriate conduct involving the network’s staff. Furumiya emphasized JR Kyushu’s commitment to respecting human rights and stated that the company would monitor Fuji TV’s response before deciding whether to resume advertisements. Source: NHK
