JR to Add New Station in Itoshima

According to sources, JR Kyushu has entered the final stages of negotiations on the establishment of a new station on the Chikuhi Line to be located in Itoshima City between Chikuzen-Maebaru and Hatae stations. The company is expected to sign a memorandum with the Chikuhi Line New Station Construction Promotion Association in the near future, and the new station would likely go into operation in 2017 or 2018. The new station would be an elevated structure spanning the tracks, and construction is estimated to cost ¥800 million. The completion of a new residential development near the site has seen an increase in ridership on the Fukuoka City Subway, which is directly connected to the Chikuhi Line, so JR Kyushu determined that a new station in the area would be economically feasible.
