JA Kagoshima and Kyushu University have initiated research on a system to trade emissions reduction credits for livestock greenhouse gases. The project, involving local cattle, pigs, and chickens, aims to model a trading system that measures, evaluates, and reduces emissions from livestock burps and waste, which contain methane and nitrous oxide. The initiative includes participation from Linkhola and AmaterZ, companies specializing in consulting and emissions measurement. Given Kagoshima’s leading livestock numbers and resultant emissions, the project seeks to enhance the value of local livestock by integrating emissions reduction with cost-saving measures for farmers.
